Protection Dog Training
Personal Protection Dog Training
Training your dog to protect you is one of the best forms of protection available. Dogs are the only weapon that cannot be turned on the handler and even better are HUGE deterrents to being attacked or broken into. A well trained dog can save your life and your property.
Not all dogs are candidates for protection training. We require the dogs to be stable and generally social dogs with stable owners who are committed to training and responsible ownership. Professionally trained protection dogs are available for sale.
Protection Dog Training covers the following topics:
- Obedience Training: Protection dogs must be obedient on and off leash and under heavy distraction. We will work on advanced obedience training and handling.
- Positive Socialization: We will teach your dog to be social and at ease with non threatening strangers and teach your dog a system of communication where you can tell them when someone is not a threat. This helps make your dog stable in social situations.
- Guard Command: We will teach your dog a command to guard (bark, lunge, growl and act intimidating).
- Reaction to Threat: Through training your dog will learn to react on their own to suspicious or threatening behavior to ensure they will guard your property or you if you don’t see a threatening stranger coming.
To start protection dog training we require an initial consultation to determine if you dog is a candidate for guard work and to go over the details of what is involved. Dogs are aggressive to non threatening strangers will not be considered.
Cost for private consultation is $125.00
If your dog qualifies for training, you will be able to purchase or 10 protection package where we work on obedience and guarding for $950.00
The training director for all protection dogs is Erin Kramer. Erin is a certified dog training and academy instructor for Tug Dogs and the Wonderdogs program in Western Canada. Erin has trained dogs for competitive protection in Schutzhund and French Ring and has trained numerous protection dogs. Erin has sold dogs to police departments and has used her own dogs as police K9 actors for television. Protection training demonstrations will be provided at the private consultation.
